FCC Approves Wider Channels at 6 GHz & Conditional Operation at 23 GHz

ShareThis

The FCC has approved rule changes that would allow up to 30 MHz bandwidth on channels in the upper 6 GHz band (6525-6875 MHz). In the same rule making, the FCC said they will allow applicants to operate pursuant to conditional authority on two additional channel pairs in the 23 GHz Band. Both items were recommended by the Fixed Wireless Communications Coalition (FWCC).

To implement these new 6 GHz rules, the FCC will adopt the specific channel plan proposed in the NPRM, with the corrections noted by AT&T and FWCC,i.e., 30 MHz bandwidth paired channels (for 60 MHz total for each authorized path) at 6555 and 6725 MHz, 6595 and 6755 MHz, 6625 and 6785 MHz, 6655 MHz and 6815 MHz, and 6685 MHz and 6845 MHz.

At 23 GHz, the FCC adopts the proposal to allow conditional authority on two additional channel pairs in the 23 GHz band – the 22.025/23.225 GHz and 22.075/23.275 GHz channel pairs – for
applicants proposing to limit their effective isotropically radiated power (EIRP) to 55 dBm.

Complete information on the item released Friday, June 11, 2010, is available in the Report and Order on WT Docket No. 09-114. Contact FCC regulatory staff for more information.

Klaus: The FCC recently

Klaus:

The FCC recently released a proposed rule making Federal Communications Commission Washington, D.C. 20554 May 19, 2010 DA 10-809.

From this proposed rule making it appears that they are willing to coordinate for small business and other qualified users to use the BAS/CARS licenses in the 6875-7075 MHz (“7 GHz”) and 12750-13250 MHz (“13 GHz”) bands. Any chance that our utility customers will have access to these channels?
